Description of Position
The Assistant Director of Development/Major Gifts Officer is a 12-month, full-time, Administrative/Professional position in the College of Business at Washington State University. This position will assist the Senior Director of Development within the College of Business’ advancement program related to fundraising, alumni relations and public relations in areas including (but not limited to) global leadership. This position will demonstrate knowledge and the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies in a global environment. The Major Gifts Officer is a member of the University’s development team and will work out of an office located in Seattle, Washington. This position involves extensive travel, which may include overseas.
Minimum Qualifications
Position requires a Bachelors degree and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant
experience, which includes eighteen (18) months of full-time fundraising experience with demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitation of gifts of $1000 or more, mass market fundraising, donor stewardship, fund tracking and acknowledgements to donors OR comparable experience and one (1) year of managerial experience. Comparable experience that may be substituted for the experience requirements include a total of four (4) years of progressively responsible full time experience in sales, marketing, public relations or advancement experience that has involved direct face-to-face contact with clients, customers, prospective customers and members of the public. Willing to travel (must have a valid driver’s license) and work occasional evenings or weekends. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Major gifts 80% E
Identify, cultivate, secure and steward gifts of $25,000 and greater.
Work with the Senior Director of Development to set goals and priorities driven by the CB Strategic Plan. Develop and implement cultivation strategies for additional major/planned gifts to the College. Build and manage relationships with relevant donors. Solicit gifts of $25,000 or more through face-to-face meetings with donors. Project management responsibilities particularly in the area of Globally Competitive Business Leadership. Attend Development Cabinet meetings.
• Planned Giving, Endowments, Initiative Volunteer Management and Leadership 10% E
Collaborate with potential planned gift donors to establish funds for endowments, i.e., scholarships, distinguished professorships, and chairs.
Provide accurate information to donors regarding planned giving opportunities and ways to establish endowments within the college. Develop relationships with departmental and college advisory board members and key volunteers.
• Volunteer and Advisory Board Management (5%)
Assist in facilitation of college advisory board, in identifying and orienting board members on fundraising activities and responsibilities. Prepare volunteers to participate in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts.
