Position Summary

This position will work as part of a team to create and maintain all documentation for the specified product line.



Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing and writing manuals, online help, release notes, quick start cards, and technical notes, for an audience of network system administrators in Internet networking environments.
  • Work with all members of the product development and support teams (software and hardware engineers, testers, technical support engineers, program managers, and training staff) to gain an understanding of the product and to offer input on development of product features and usability issues.
  • Work closely with the documentation manager, other team writers and our editor to produce a cohesive, integrated documentation set that is consistent in style, presentation, and product messaging.
  • Assist the documentation manager in the project planning process, including developing outlines, task lists, and preliminary schedules.


Qualifications
  • BA or BS degree, or 10+ years of technical writing experience.
  • 6+ years of technical writing experience, at least 2 of which were writing in a commercial software production environment.
  • Exceptional grammatical skills and solid editing ability, including the ability to organize complex content and work with style guides.
  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere, as well as individually, and to demonstrate flexibility and creativity in a dynamic environment.
  • Desire to work extensively with the product, and to gain in-depth knowledge of the product.
  • Familiarity with standard tools, including HTML editors (preferably Dreamweaver) and desktop publishing software (preferably FrameMaker).
  • Self-directed and self-motivated.
  • XML skills desired.
  • Familiarity with agile and iterative development methodologies desired.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Office environment, daily computer use.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

Duties are performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties require the ability to utilize a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, and may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
